Follow causal chain from top to bottom
Example
Explanation
To interpret these cause and effect diagrams, read downwards following the links from text box to text box. When you get to a text box with a grey bar at the bottom, use the node (or axiom) number to find that node in the diagram at the end of the indicated chapter (e.g. 1-903 is in the diagram at the end of Chapter 1) so you can continue reading downward on that page. As you follow the links, a statement builds up explaining the answer to the question that leads back to the 8 fundamental axioms. Using the example on the next page, taken from the Section 2.10:
– Humans have a tension between our FEARS and our FACADES
– Because we are fundamentally Insecure, and (going to Section 1.12)
– We are fundamentally Insecure
– Because we had to become Generalists
– Because the forests disappeared, and we found ourselves in a harsh habitat with Scarce Resources
For the full explanation, one needs to also follow other paths, such as:
– Humans have a tension between our FEARS and our FACADES
– Because we have to Compete with others for mates – we need a FACADE
… and so on
